Bibliotherapy Zine #8

Mumbai Lit Fest. Wodehouse. Gaiman. @naanomad. Forty-Two.

Welcome to Issue #8. Let's dive straight in...

Comic Relief Department

“As we grow older and realize more clearly the limitations of human happiness, we come to see that the only real and abiding pleasure in life is to give pleasure to other people.” ~ P.G. Wodehouse

Last week, courtesy the online avatar of Mumbai Lit Fest, an eclectic ensemble of Wodehouse enthusiasts treated fellow nuts to enthralling live readings, anecdotes and more.

The highlight of these extremely enjoyable eighty minutes was Robert Goodale's outstanding one-man act impersonating the wide range of characters invented by the master of wit, including Jeeves, Bertie and Lord Emsworth.

Also, Instagram launched Guides for the general public, which at first glance seems to be certainly more useful (and definitely less irritating) than Reels. Now anyone can recycle their favourite posts from the bottom of their feeds by arranging them into accessible guides.

Check out 50+ Wodehouse quotes in one place here.

Storyteller Celebration Department

“I am one of those people, more people know who I am than have read my books...

One reason that people don’t necessarily read my books is because they don’t know where to start, and all of the books and all of the stories are very different.” ~ Neil Gaiman

Neil's eclectic body of work somehow eluded my reading list as well. Till last week, that is, when I finally took my first steps towards exploring his extensive oeuvre with 'Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch', his 1990 co-attempt with Terry Pratchett at making the end of the world funny as hell.

Check out bits from his telephonic interview with Bibek Bhattacharya for LiveMint below...

Department of Reading List-Setting

I'm super psyched about this latest experiment with Bibliotherapy designed to nudge myself to read more.

Feel free to populate your reading list for the long winter ahead with any/all of the 42 books which have piqued my curiosity.

Feedback-Seeking Department

After chasing the blues away through this 'sanity project' for eight months on Instagram, almost five months on ScrollStack, and now for over a month via WhatsApp and E-mail, I can safely say that I'm immensely enjoying nudging you folks to read more.

Thank you :)

I'm working on a few ideas to further enhance the Bibliotherapy experience and make the project sustainable over the foreseeable future.

More suggestions/feedback/banter are always welcome. DMs are open across platforms. Hit me up.

Name. One book/author/topic on your reading list for 2021. Email. Phone number (optional). That’s all.
Sign up below to READ MORE this year and beyond... :)
